Why Are So Many Lenders Calling Me?

Lenders are calling you because they bought your personal financial information.
When you are applying for a mortgage, once your loan officer pulls your credit report, the credit reporting agencies will sell your personal financial information to other lenders, sometimes dozens of lenders.
Some of those lenders will disregard the Do Not Call List and call you anyway.
Lenders who will pay for your private financial information and call you against your wishes probably do not have your best interests in mind.

Lenders can also see when you last financed your loan, what type of loan you have, interest rate, etc. If for example they see that you are currently in an adjustable rate mortgage, and your fixed term is about to expire, you'll more than likely receive a phone call from lenders.

If you have recently filled out any forms online for a free mortgage quote, you may be flooded with phone calls. Lead generation sites will obtain basic information such as your name, phone number and how much money you would like to borrow. They will then sell this information to mortgage brokers. Some sites only sell to one person. Others will sell your information to several companies who will all be calling trying to earn your business.

When applying for mortgage online, or even just enquiring about loan programs, be sure to deal only with mortgage broker websites. Always steer clear of "lead broker" websites. "Lead brokers" or "lead generators", unlike mortgage brokers, do not work on loans themselves. Although some of these "lead generator" websites are licensed mortgage companies, their business model is to sell applicant's personal information to other mortgage brokers as "leads". If a website advertises that they'd "have 4 or more lenders competing for your loan", one can be certain that this website sells its loan applicant's information to 4 or more mortgage companies. If one of these 4 companies is a "lead reseller", the information is sold to dozens other companies. To avoid having your information sold to multiple mortgage companies, and to avoid the seemingly endless calls for months to come, always ask if the company you are dealing with is the only one directly arranging or funding your loan applications.

Some Lenders who issue Adjustable Rate Mortgages sell the information of their customers when the Adjustable period of their loan is almost present.
