Moving with Children of any age can be an especially hard transition. Here are some tips that may help in making your move a little easier on your family.
1. Get your children involved! Help them to create checklists of items that belong to them and create excitement by discussing how they would like to setup or design their new rooms. Making them feel like they are part of the process can provide more security.
2. Talk positive about the new location. Let them know all of the nice things that they will be experiencing
3. Help them find ways to stay in touch with old friends. Maybe organize going away party.
4. Make sure DVD player is working in vehicle and plenty of DVDs are at the ready.
For school age children, have them do some internet research. Have them look at an online map for nearby schools and parks. Have them locate the nearest police station and fire station. Have them look at their new school's website. Have them research activities in their new neighborhood such as sports teams, martial arts, park & rec., movie theaters, etc.
